In both gas brazing and arc welding, the pieces are cleaned again after the joint has cooled, to remove any residue. Unlike in gas brazing, where the heat is produced by burning gases (oxygen and acetylene) and a filler rod is applied separately, in arc welding the heat is produced by an electric arc and the electrode itself melts and serves as the filler.
