Λύσεις των 9 φιλτραρισμένων κλειστών ασκήσεων της ενότητας (σελ. 144-160): reading comprehension (αγγελία εργασίας), δομημένη συμπλήρωση επιστολής αίτησης/βιογραφικού από δοσμένες πληροφορίες, σχηματισμός ερωτήσεων, λεξιλόγιο εργασίας και phrasal verb «look».

Reading job-advert comprehension (Exercise 2)

Ερώτηση: Read the job advert and answer the questions that follow. 1. Who is this advertisement addressed to? 2. What are the essential requirements for the position? 3. How does the advert attract candidates? 4. How can candidates contact them?

Απάντηση:

• 1. Η αγγελία απευθύνεται σε «young bright and cheerful people» (νέους ανθρώπους, χαρούμενους και έξυπνους), για να δουλέψουν ως holiday hosts/hostesses.
• 2. Απαραίτητη προϋπόθεση: «Good knowledge of English is necessary»· επιπλέον, γνώση αθλήματος/μουσικού οργάνου θα ήταν χρήσιμη («If you can play any sports or a musical instrument, this will be useful»).
• 3. Προσελκύει με την προσφορά «Accommodation, food, pocket money, medical insurance and return travel are all provided», και τον τόπο εργασίας (νέο ξενοδοχείο στην Κρήτη).

WRITING application-letter cloze (Exercise 1)

Ερώτηση: Study the following application letter sent by another candidate and fill in the missing information. "I read your .................................... in Fun magazine, and I would like to ............................. for a job as a holiday host this summer... I can speak ..................... very well. I like ................................ ... I enjoy playing ............................... . I can play basketball very well... I cannot play a .............................................. , but I can sing well."

Απάντηση:

• «your ___ in Fun magazine» → advertisement (αναφορά στην αγγελία).
• «would like to ___ for a job» → apply (κλασική έκφραση αίτησης).
• «I can speak ___ very well» → English, αφού η αγγελία ζητά ρητά καλή γνώση Αγγλικών.
• «I like ___» + «I have been to many parts of our country» → travelling (ταξίδια).
• «I enjoy playing ___» + «I can play basketball very well... good at swimming» → sports.
• «I cannot play a ___» + «but I can sing well» → musical instrument.

Κριτήρια αξιολόγησης:

• Το κενό «I can speak ___» θα μπορούσε θεωρητικά να είναι «Greek» (μητρική γλώσσα), αλλά στο πλαίσιο αίτησης σε ελληνικό θέρετρο που ζητά αγγλόφωνους hosts, το «English» ταιριάζει καλύτερα ως απόδειξη προσόντος.

WRITING CV→letter cloze (Exercise 2)

Ερώτηση: Your brother/friend, who is a qualified accountant, has prepared his CV (George Ioannou: 2nd Technical Vocational Lyceum Athens, speciality Accountant; military service in the Air Forces; College of Economics Manchester, one-year training in Accounting; employed at G-Systems Accounting and Logistics as accountant's assistant, completing tax reports; reasons for leaving: to gain more experience; foreign languages: English; interests: surfing the web, travelling). Complete his letter of application taking information from his CV.

Απάντηση:

• «I have seen your for an » → advertisement / accountant('s position).
• «enclosed ___» → Curriculum Vitae (C.V.).

Κριτήρια αξιολόγησης:

• Το κενό «I am ___ years old» ΔΕΝ μπορεί να προσδιοριστεί επακριβώς — το CV δίνει μόνο «DATE OF BIRTH: 198...» (σκόπιμα κρυμμένο), άρα η ηλικία παραμένει αόριστη/δεν απαντιέται με ακρίβεια από το δοσμένο υλικό.
• Ομοίως, οι ακριβείς χρονολογίες («When I was discharged... in », «From to present») δεν προσδιορίζονται πλήρως, αφού το CV δίνει μόνο «199...» — καταγράφεται ρητά ως κενό της πηγής, δεν επινοείται αριθμός.

WRITING jumbled-order paragraph-functions matching (Exercise 3)

Ερώτηση: The following phrases show the functions of each part of the letter of application you have already completed, but they are in jumbled order. Put them in the right order. (α) Explaining the applicant's education that qualifies him/her for the job... (β) Showing the specific things the applicant can do that make him/her suitable for the job. (γ) Stating the reasons the applicant wants to leave his/her present job. (δ) Applying for the post and showing interest in the job. Απάντηση:

• Κάθε prompt μετατρέπεται σε πλήρη, γραμματικά σωστή ερώτηση:

Reading: make questions for given answers (Exercise 1)

Ερώτηση: Read the advert and make questions for the following answers. 1. It's for young technicians. 2. There are two courses. 3. 25th - 30th April. 4. It's 500 pounds.

Απάντηση:

• Η αγγελία (WORKSHOP, London Technicians' Education Centre) δίνει: «A five-day advanced course in twenty different specialisations for young technicians», δύο ημερομηνίες (28 Feb-5 Mar, 25-30 Apr), «Fee: £500».

Ερώτηση: Fill in the gaps with words from the table connected to jobs: interview, experience, look for, impression, application, references, candidates, qualifications. If you are invited to an ................................... , try to give a good ............................... . Απάντηση:
